Time to Look Within

Life is serious in the world of the pandemic.  But then, life has always been serious.  Always.

2020 is a year that has exposed the fragility of life.  Family, friends, and the simple things are appreciated a lot more than they have been in the past.  Our ability to go and to do what we please is now a lot more complex.  Our routines are different.  “Going outside” has become more intense.

We’re on guard with masks and distancing.  Black Lives Matter. Weather Alerts. Economy on Edge.  Political War.  “Zooming” Out.  Our days are full of stress and not enough rest.  Eye contact is limited and smiles are a lot harder to detect.  Getting to the most important thing (whatever your most important thing is) has become harder.  Now is the time to look inside, while deaing with the outside.

When looking within, here’s a few things I like to do:

  • Identify and commit to my desired future. I think of a specific date in the future, and picture that day vividly, so that I can identify what needs to do be done right now to help me get there.
  • Perform a Self-assessment. I get honest and tough about my performance.  And it’s not just me – I listen closely to what others say they see in how I live my life.
  • Look at my Strengths and Weaknesses. I decide on where to lean in, when to stay steady, and where to step up – as I pursue my goals and challenges (while staying true to my values).
  • Talk to my trusted advisors. I check in with friends, family, mentors, and advisors.  Being open to guidance from others helps me figure out better alternatives and solutions.
  • Plan then Act. I put together a plan, as having great plans is necessary. However, acting on my plan is essential.

Hopefully sharing my process will inspire you to take time…right now…to look within.
